Why barrel length matters for revolver holster fit

A revolver holster is cut to a specific barrel length. A holster made for a 4" barrel will not fully cover or hold a 6" barrel, and a longer holster leaves a short barrel loose. Check the barrel length stamped on your revolver, or measure from the front of the cylinder to the muzzle, and match it to the length in the product title. If a length is not listed, ask us before you order.

Pick a carry style

IWB for concealed carry

Inside-the-waistband holsters suit compact snub-nose revolvers like the J-Frame, LCR and SP101. Tuckable models let you wear a shirt tucked over the gun.

OWB thumb break leather

Outside-the-waistband leather holsters with a thumb break strap are a good fit for larger revolvers like the Python, 686 and GP100, and for field or range use.

Shoulder holsters

Shoulder holsters carry the revolver under the arm, which some owners prefer when driving or wearing a jacket. See the shoulder holsters in the grid below.

Leather care and break-in

New leather holsters are made snug on purpose. Expect a short break-in period as the leather shapes to your revolver. Keep leather clean and dry, wipe it with a soft cloth, and use a leather conditioner now and then. Never soak or heat-dry a holster.

Revolver holster FAQ

What size holster do I need for a Colt Python?

Match the holster to your Python's barrel length. Colt Python barrels range from 2.5" to 8". Check your barrel length, then confirm the product title or contact us before ordering.

What holster fits a Taurus Judge with a 3 inch barrel?

Our Taurus Judge 3" IWB Holster is made for the 3-inch Judge. We also carry holsters for the 2.5" and 6.5" Judge and for the Judge Public Defender.

Can you conceal carry a Taurus Judge?

Many owners carry a short-barrel Judge or Public Defender concealed with an IWB holster. It is a large revolver, so expect more bulk than a snub-nose. Always check your local carry laws.

Is IWB or OWB better for carrying a J-Frame?

IWB is usually easier to conceal. OWB with a thumb break is often more comfortable for longer wear and open carry. We carry both styles for the J-Frame.

Will an SP101 3 inch holster fit the 2.25 inch?

Buy the holster that matches your barrel length. If you are not sure whether a holster fits your SP101, contact us before ordering.

Do you make left-handed revolver holsters?

Some models come in left-hand versions, such as the J-Frame clip-on IWB and the Colt Python IWB clip-on. Check the product title or options, or ask us about your model.

Leather or Kydex for a revolver?

MyHolster's revolver holsters are mainly leather, with some nylon and polymer options. Leather is quiet, comfortable and molds to your gun over time.

Do you sell western or cowboy revolver rigs?

No. We do not currently carry western or cowboy-style revolver rigs.
